What Experts Are Saying About Mobile Giving

Mobile giving technology can benefit your nonprofit fundraising efforts in a very real way. But don’t just take our word for it. Experts agree that mobile giving is the future of fundraising — and it’s high time your organization gets on board.

Mobile Giving Keeps Getting More Convenient

Now that the demand for mobile giving, shopping, and banking has increased, technology keeps advancing to make the process faster and easier.

Chase understands the technological advances better than anyone. When looking back at the history of their mobile options, they remembered that in the beginning, people were only able to view their bank and credit card balances on their phones. But now, almost all banking can be done using smartphone apps — and mobile giving is taking that idea one step further.

You no longer have to write and mail a check. You don’t have to visit an ATM to get cash. You don’t even have to remember a text-to-give code anymore. Now, you can use your phone to instantly make a donation. It does not get any more convenient than that.

Faster Giving Is Better Giving

Twice as many people visit nonprofit websites to donate than those who visit to stay connected to the organization. But if your website is not mobile friendly, that causes problems for your donors.  Studies show that:

If a mobile user has trouble with your mobile website, there is a 40% chance they will switch to a competitor.

Users who have a bad experience on your mobile website are 57% less likely to recommend your organization.

60% of mobile users expect your mobile website to load in under 3 seconds.

Did you know that 1 of every 3 visitors to your website are on a phone or tablet? It is imperative that your organization take steps to give donors the most fast and easy mobile giving experience possible. Whether that means souping up your mobile website or switching to a mobile giving app, your supporters will appreciate the added convenience.

Mobile Donation Amounts Are Increasing

If you were under the impression that no one uses mobile giving to donate to charity, think again. Mobile giving is actually on the rise — and the amounts of each donation are increasing as well.

In 2012, mobile charity donations increased for both PayPal and eBay Giving Works:

PayPal processed over $3.6 billion in donations, a 22% increase compared to the previous year.

eBay Giving Works increased donations by 14% compared to the previous year.

The amounts of each specific donation have increased as well, likely due to the lack of capped amounts on mobile giving apps. Donation amounts via smartphones are up 942% since 2012, and giving via mobile is outpacing buying by mobile by over 600%.
