Text-to-give campaigns have revolutionized mobile giving. According to the Real Time Charitable Giving study by the Pew Research Center, one in 10 U.S. adults have made charitable donations via text messaging. The study also found that during the 2010 Text to Haiti campaign:
76% of donors said they made text donations without doing much research

43% encouraged family and friends to give

Text-to-Give Isn’t Perfect
Text-to-give has limitations, though. Requirements for acceptance are strict. Donation amounts are limited to $5-$10. Short code availability is limited. Working with mobile carriers can be difficult and costly. Recurring transactions are impossible. The billing and payment process can take up to three months. Now that text-to-give has paved the way for mobile giving, the next logical step involves iPhone and Android apps. Donors can give directly from their phone. They can give any amount. Donations can happen anywhere, anytime. The funds can be deducted straight from their bank account. Mobile giving apps are the best and least complicated solution.
