Is your nonprofit unknowingly excluding some of its most promising potential donors? To make sure all of your supporters — even young adults — feel included in your fundraising, allow them to use mobile giving methods to make donations.
A New Generation of Donors
Millennials are often pre-judged as selfish and disinterested in helping make the world better, but that is far from the case. In 2014, according to the Millennial Impact Report by Achieve:
84% of millennials made a nonprofit donation
70% volunteered for at least one hour
Some giving methods, while still beneficial to your more seasoned donors, are not as relevant to the young people who want to support your cause. While they value attending fundraising events and participating in giving, they do not use the same methods as your older donors.
Cash and Checks Are Old News
Most young people do not carry cash, and they rarely — if ever — write checks. Many do not even own a checkbook at all. How are they supposed to feel included if they do not have anything to place in your donation bin, and they have no other giving options available to them?
By sticking with only the traditional methods of accepting nonprofit donations, you could be alienating a group that is important to your fundraising efforts. Since these younger donors will one day become your key demographic, it is important to reach out to them now. Build the habit of giving early by providing an option that suits their needs.
Millennials and Mobile Giving
As you likely know, mobile devices are becoming more and more popular, with just about everyone in the Millennial generation owning a smartphone. So while they do not have cash or checks, they do have a smartphone and the ability to download a mobile giving app. When they do have access to mobile giving methods, they make use of them. In 2014, 62% of millennials gave using a mobile phone.
Mobile giving enables your supporters to make nonprofit donations with just a few taps on their smartphones. When you add these methods to your own fundraising efforts, you will see more and more donations roll in from your younger supporters. Being inclusive to this group of donors will help boost your overall donations in the long run. What are you waiting for?No Fields Found.
