Honoring Fathers–and Father Figures–This Sunday

Mother’s Day services tend to draw large crowds to church, but Father’s Day is equally as important in the lives of your members. By planning special events, creating custom donation app envelopes, and handing out gifts, you can highlight the holiday and use it to impact your congregation.

Hold a Father’s Day Gathering

Father’s Day (Sunday, June 19) has the potential to be a very special Sunday for your place of worship. By planning an event for that day, you can draw your community of believers together and help build their relationships with one another.

Have a pitch-in lunch after service to celebrate the fathers in your midst. Plan a nice evening banquet. Have members say a few words and give “awards” to the fathers and father figures who have made an impact on their lives.

No matter what type of Father’s Day event you choose, take advantage of the opportunity to build up your members and strengthen your community. It doesn’t have to be about who receives the best 50 inch TV, community matters.

Promote Your Men’s Ministries

While your churchgoers are focused on fatherhood, it’s the perfect time to bring light to the men’s ministries your church offers. Shine light on the men’s groups in your congregation, and invite them to share what they are doing with the rest of the congregation.

This gives you an opportunity to direct attention to great things that are happening in your church, and also perhaps draw new members to those ministries who previously did not know they existed.

Set Up a Special Campaign in Your Donation App

Since everyone’s minds will be on Father’s Day, you can adapt your donation app to fit in with the theme of the day. Create an offering envelope to collect donations for a special Father’s Day dinner. Drive funds for your men’s ministry and other programs that honor the dads in your membership. Put a special offering aside to purchase small gifts to hand out to fathers as they are leaving service.

Because the holiday is so special, your members will be excited to pitch in and celebrate their dads. You can then put these offerings to good use and create a memorable Father’s Day for your congregation.
