In just a few years, #GivingTuesday has grown to be an international phenomenon that highlights the joy of giving.
A large part of the campaign’s success has to do with organizations’ strategic use of social media. Across the globe, people are hearing organizations’ calls and becoming their online ambassadors to spread the word and fundraise.
Your organization can catapult its #GivingTuesday campaign off the charts by implementing a few creative social media tips.
1. Individualize Your Hashtags
#GivingTuesday encourages organizations to get creative and come up with their own hashtags for their campaigns. Doing so will distinguish your campaign from the rest and enable you to compile posts made by your supporters.
It’s also worth noting that studies show that social media posts with hashtags see an average of 60% more engagement. Make sure your hashtag is easy to read and understand and stick to only one or two unique hashtags.
2. Include Testimonials
Donors love seeing testimonials of people whose lives have been changed. Find willing beneficiaries to share their stories about how your organization helped them. Film individual stories or make a compilation video, and post them on social media with links to your online giving page. By providing these stories, you are giving donors real, anecdotal evidence of how their donations can make a difference in needy people’s lives.
3. Host a #GivingTuesday “Ask Me Anything” Session
In #GivingTuesday’s helpful social media toolkit, they suggest hosting an “Ask Me Anything” session, in which you engage in a live exchange with supporters via Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Your supporters can ask you and your campaign partners any question at all.
This could be a great way for you to communicate important information about your organization, highlight some successes, and seal the deal with donors who have been on the fence. You can pump some fun into your campaign in the process.
4. Post Images and Videos
It’s okay for some social media posts to include only text, but make sure that you post plenty of images and videos, too. Studies show that this can increase the amount of engagement you receive on your posts.
You can get creative with the type of images and videos you post, too. In addition to testimonials, you can post helpful infographics, which explain to donors how their money will make an impact. You can also show photos and videos of your volunteers in action, helping your beneficiaries.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but the right picture might also be worth a thousand donations.
5. Make a Call-to-Action with an Online Giving Link
Don’t forget to use every social media tool you can to urge your supporters to take action and donate now. Make sure you’re clear about exactly what you want people to do. Be direct and say, “Help us feed hungry families – Click here to donate now.” Make sure your link takes them directly to your online giving page, so they don’t have to find it on their own.
If your organization is registered with Givelify, you are provided with a link that can be shared on any social media platform, leading supporters straight to your giving page. You can also add a “Donate Now” button on your organization’s Facebook page. These are just some of the ways Givelify helps you make #GivingTuesday an effortless and beautiful experience for your supporters.
