Free Social Media Starters for Churches

In our last post on fighting the summer giving slump we outlined some ways to reach out to your members while on vacation.

One of our recommendations for increasing mobile donations was to engage via social media, bringing your message to donors while they’re at the beach, at a theme park, or wherever they may be. We thought it would be helpful to give you some starter ideas to do just that.

Feel free to use these posts on Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere else to ask for donations via Givelify, or let them help you brainstorm your own ideas. Just copy, paste, and put in your church’s name, and post away.

Pro Tips

  • Add the usernames of those you mention (such as @Givelify) when posting to Twitter.
  • Twitter posts are limited to 140 characters. You may have to edit these posts for length depending on the name of your church.
  • Tag people and pages in your Facebook posts. Go ahead and tag Givelify if you use the above posts on Facebook.
  • Include links and always use shortened URLs. Twitter has its own URL shortener (t.co), as does Google (goo.gl). You can use standalone tools like bit.ly as well.
  • Unclear on URL shortening? Just copy and paste the following link to include in your posts that will take people directly to the Givelify app download page: http://ow.ly/xAeA4

Don’t Forget the Pictures

It’s a statistical fact that social media posts with images get more likes, shares, and retweets than those without. Here are a couple of images you can download and use to go along with these posts.

These images were created in just a few minutes using a free online tool called Canva. Simply import your own image, pick a layout, insert your text, and publish: no design skills required.

A Few Image Sources

Finding images for your blog and social media posts can be tough. You must make sure not to use copyrighted photos.

Here are a few sources for free (or cheap) stock photos to use in your posts.

Need More Help?

Social media is more than just throwing messages out there. It is critical to develop a plan so you can see what’s working–and what’s not.

Here are a few resources we trust to help you develop a social media strategy and plan.
