A Church Giving App Meets Needs of Different Generations

Your place of worship is made up of a variety of generations. From seniors to teenagers to married couples to singles, your churchgoers all have different needs and preferences.

How do the different generations of members in your church prefer to give? How can you make sure to meet the needs of every person in your congregation? Adding a church giving app to your fundraising options is a good place to start.

Different Options for Different Givers

With so many varied generations under one roof, it’s important to reach out to them in different ways. This probably already impacts the way you conduct your worship services. You may include some old hymns for the seniors, while throwing in some modern worship songs for the young adults. But when it comes to giving, you have stuck with the offering plate — a method that is quickly becoming outdated and isn’t necessarily the best option for everyone.

Does that mean you need to stop passing the plate? Absolutely not! There is still a place for the traditional offering ceremony, particularly for your older members. But if you want to increase church giving, and receive donations from every generation in your congregation, it’s time to modernize your efforts and vary your available giving options.

Older Churchgoers Opt for Online Giving

You know that older generations tend to give in more traditional ways. They usually give during church services. They put cash or checks in the offering plate. But when it comes to more modern technology, your older members are more likely to use online giving than their younger counterparts. According to a survey by Campbell Rinker:

Donors age 40-59 are now the most likely group to use online giving.

67% of donors age 40-59 now use online giving, an increase from 47% in 2010.

Donors over age 60 are now just as likely as those under 40 to use online giving.

As your members become more and more accustomed to using modern technology in other areas of life, they are becoming more willing to use it for church giving as well. But what do the younger generations prefer? Is online giving enough to meet their needs? Or do you need to use a church giving app, too?

Young People Prefer a Church Giving App

It turns out that even online giving is becoming outdated for your younger churchgoers. As they grow more and more attached to their mobile devices, they become more likely to give using a church giving app.

In 2015, 54% of donors under 40 gave through a charity’s website, which was down from 60% the previous year. While online giving is still popular among the younger generation, their focus is shifting to apps. This is in part due to their desire to give on-the-go.

With a church giving app, parishioners are not limited to when and where they can donate to your organization. They can give from anywhere, at any time. In order to meet their needs and preferences, you will need to add the option of mobile giving. But when more donations start coming in from your younger generation of parishioners, you will be glad you did.
