Blog and Social Media 101 for Your Church (Plus a Free Ebook)

Creating social media and other content can be challenging. Where does it come from? How does it meet the needs of our members? Where will I find the time?

Whether you know it or not, your church already has a store of blog posts and social media available to you: repurposed content.

This comes from a great blog post on HubSpot called Existing Content Faith-Based Organizations Can (and Should) Repurpose by Aimee Cottle of Fishhook. Fishhook is a communications and creative services firm that partners with churches and other faith-based organizations.

Let’s face it: growing your church and its activities is a marketing job. Inbound marketing is a critical step in gaining and retaining active members and donors.

Social Media and Blog Sources

Aimee runs down some great sources of content you’re already producing that can be utilized for online and social media purposes including:

  • sacred texts and writings,
  • weekly teachings,
  • classes and group studies,
  • your supporters and constituents, and
  • wisdom from a religious leader.

Sacred Texts and Writings

“It’s the perfect content to start with because it not only connects people to your organization, but also makes the reader think about his/her own faith.”

Weekly Teachings

“Let’s say … you’re at a congregation that speaks about a different topic each week. That means you’re sitting on 52 different blog topics.”

Your Supporters and Constituents

“Allowing people to tell their story not only highlights the lives of your supporters, but shows readers you are invested in the people who invest in you.”
