How To Encourage Mobile Giving at Your Fundraising Event

Earth Day events will be taking place throughout the country today, and many environmental organizations will use the opportunity to bump up their fundraising game. Whether your focus is on saving the environment or another noble cause, mobile giving technology can help your nonprofit take live fundraising events to the next level.

Mobile options like text-to-give campaigns or giving apps can have a major impact at live events. This is particularly true when it comes to spontaneous giving. According to Pew Internet Research, after the Haitian earthquake in 2010:

About $43 million was raised via a text-to-give campaign

80% of the mobile givers surveyed donated using their phones

73% of donors gave on the same day they heard about the campaign

Pledge cards are passé; immediate spur-of-the-moment mobile giving is the future. How can you best make use of this technology at your own fundraising event? What can you do to make sure attendees pull out their phones and donate?

Show a Live Feed of Incoming Donations

One surefire way to kick start mobile giving at your fundraising event is to show a live feed of all incoming donations. Givelify’s member nonprofits are already at an advantage here.

Using our Givelithon feature, you can easily project a running donation tally onto a big screen. You can also include the fundraising goal you are trying to achieve, and show how much you have left to raise.

Have volunteers make some donations to get things rolling. Once other attendees see the number start to climb, they will want to participate in the action firsthand.

Include a Clear Call-to-Action on Handouts and Signage

Putting together signs for your event? Will you be handing out flyers or postcards to guests as they arrive? Use these advertisements to get the word out about your mobile giving option.

If no one knows that they can donate using their phone, they won’t think to try. By putting information about mobile giving in front of them from the very beginning, you ensure that they fully understand the process — and can go on to make a donation.

No Mobile Giving App? No Problem!

Don’t have a mobile giving option yet? Givelify has you covered! You can sign up your 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on our website and get started today.
