You see your members during services, but how much interaction do you have with them throughout the week? Many of your members likely do not have any contact with your church outside of Sunday services. But with Facebook, you can meet them where they are and stay connected 24/7.
Facebook is a wonderful tool for staying in touch with your members, but did you know that you can also make use of your profile to connect people directly to your church giving app?
Why Facebook Matters
If you think social media is only used by the teens and young adults in your church, you will be surprised to learn that 45% of Internet users over 65 and 31% of all U.S. senior citizens use Facebook. When they aren’t in church, members from every age group in your church will check their Facebook accounts to stay up-to-date with friends, relatives, and other causes and groups they care about. Why shouldn’t they be able to keep up with the goings-on of your church?
Since your members likely use Facebook regularly, the social network also grants you more chances to drive church giving. For example, members who may have missed services on Sunday could be reminded to give by a post on your Facebook profile on Thursday. Why not allow this additional connection to drive church giving?
Create a Donate Now Button
You can now add a Donate Now button to your church’s Facebook profile. That way people can donate to your church through Givelify right from your Facebook page on their laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet.
Your Facebook page’s category must be set to “Non-Profit Organization” in order to add the Donate Now call-to-action button. To change your category, click on About and hover over the Category line. Then click Edit and select Companies & Organizations from the first drop-down box, and Non-Profit Organization from the second. Click Save Changes.
Once you have made sure your account settings are correct, follow these steps to add Givelify to a call-to-action on your Facebook page:
- Log in to your organization’s Givelify dashboard.
- Click Settings.
- Click Social Giving.
- Click Copy to copy your custom code to your clipboard.
- Go to your organization’s Facebook page and click Add a Button, which appears just beneath your cover photo.
- Choose Donate Now from the drop-down box and paste your Givelify code in the Website field.
- Click Create.
Your donors will now be able to use the Givelify church giving app straight from your Facebook profile.
Note: In order to use Givelify on Facebook, your organization must have a verified account with Givelify. If your organization does not have an account with us, sign up here.
Write Posts About Your Givelify Church Giving App
Having Givelify on your profile is important, but many of your followers do not regularly make it a point to visit your Facebook page. Instead, they interact with your page by seeing your posts show up in their News Feeds. To ensure that you are able to get the message of Givelify across to these followers, you will need to make posts containing links to give using Givelify.
Write a post encouraging your members to use your church giving app, and then paste the link after the text. When your followers click the link, they will be taken directly to a form that will allow them to give. You do not want to repeat the same post every day, but the more often you share the link, the more likely your followers are to see it and make a donation to your church. Sprinkle it in among your other updates and announcements so that you do not overwhelm your feed with requests for offerings.
If you want to keep one post front-and-center, use Facebook’s pinning feature to keep it at the very top of your page. Pinned posts tend to be seen by more people, and it will not get lost in your feed when you make future posts.
Other Ways to Use Givelify on Facebook
In addition to creating a “Donate Now” button on your profile, you can include links to your Givelify church giving app in other places on your profile. Depending on your preferences, you might want to paste the link into your About section, or even use it as your Website link.
If your church has a marketing budget, you may want to consider paying to promote posts about Givelify on your Facebook feed. Only about 2-3% of your followers will see your posts on a regular basis, but if you pay for promotion you will reach a larger audience.
No matter which of these methods you use, adding your church giving app to your Facebook account will help grow giving in your church.
